365 New Days, 365 New Chances…

Good morning all!

I just got back from my honeymoon and feel like an entirely new person. The end of the year was tough for me – I have never been a fan of the winter months. Add to that a dose of morning sickness and a generous sprinkling of extreme tiredness and I was finding it almost impossible to see the light at the end of the tunnel. My holiday couldn’t have come soon enough. However what I have discovered so far during my pregnancy is that the female mind and body are literally programmed to forget all the bad. Whenever I ask my mother about morning sickness she tells me she never had it; either she was very lucky (about 75% of pregnant women get it) or she has chosen to forget. During the six weeks that I encountered morning sickness, I swore to myself every day that I would NEVER EVER do this again. Fast forward to the present and it is a distant memory, feels totally manageable and I am back on my plan of having lots of children! After all, I literally have a miracle growing inside of me.

Going on holiday is one of my favourite pastimes. It is beneficial for a whole array of reasons. And one of those is that it gives me time to really think. About my life, about what has been and what I plan for the future. This year is going to be my most life-changing one so far, so I thought it was especially important to make some resolutions! Granted I am only sharing these with you mid-way through January, but better late than never.

  1. Be a good mother. This is by far my most important resolution. I am counting down the days until I get to meet our little girl. I think everyone has ideas about the kind of mother they want to be. What they will do and won’t do, but I think all you can really promise yourself is to be the best possible mother YOU can be.
  2. Surround myself with positive people. As I get older I realise that you have to be selfish when it comes to the friends you keep. There is no point in having people in your life that drain you.
  3. Give less f*cks. I am reading a book at the moment by Sarah Knight called “The Life Changing Magic Of Not Giving A F**k” and it is amazing. The point is you want to spend your time, energy and money on things that really matter to you.
  4. Exercise. I have always done this but this year it is especially important for me. To stay healthy during pregnancy, to have an easier time giving birth and to get my body back post-pregnancy. There are a lot of people who seem to think that once you get pregnant you should literally do nothing for 9 months. I read somewhere that 1/3 of pregnant women in the UK are obese which is shocking. I have been working out throughout my pregnancy so far, and of course I take it at a slower pace if I feel I need to but its all about listening to your body. I believe that pregnancy is such a natural thing and if you have a low-risk pregnancy then there is no reason why you can’t continue as normal.
  5. Meditate. Up to now I have meditated every once in a while but putting 20-30 mins of time aside every day can be difficult. This year I aim to do it on a regular basis. Studies have been done showing that after meditation training of 20 minutes once a day for only five days people had measurably less anxiety and lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol. Time to make some time for this.
  6. Stop judging myself and comparing myself to others. Fashion blogs these days are a dime a dozen. Everyone is doing it. Its natural to look at other blogs and see what they are doing but I want to focus more on what I am doing.
  7. Get out of my comfort zone. That’s where success happens.
  8. Go on regular holidays. OK its not like I don’t do that anyway. But after 2 weeks in the sun I feel so incredible that I realise just how important this is! I think many people stop travelling when they have children because they find it too hard. But you have to do what works for you as a family.
  9. Be grateful every day.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend and 2016 xx
