Hi my lovelies! I wanted to focus today’s post on traditions and all the things that are important to us about the home. Something that I think so many of us have in common this year is the fact that we have spent a lot more time at home. Whether you celebrate Christmas or not I’ve always felt like December is a time for reflection, a time to slow down and to truly come together as a family.
I have always loved traditions – my parents put a lot of emphasis on this growing up and I think what is so wonderful is that as a family you can continue your childhood traditions but also create new ones. For example we have started celebrating Thanksgiving which I never did as a child but I think having a day to focus on what we are thankful for in our lives is just so lovely and a good way to reset your mind. A lot of my childhood traditions were focused around cooking – making traditional Finnish Karelian pies and Joulutorttu (I should do some stories on these because I am obsessed!) We would also make lots of crafts together with my mother at home, decorate the tree, go to church and I remember our home always being decorated so beautifully. I would love to know what are some of your favourite traditions?
So what do I love about this time of year now that I am older and have my own children? I love the cooking and the baking. I love making advent calendars for my girls. I love Christmas music – I start playing it in my car in late November and literally never get bored of it. I love making our home feel festive and decorating the tree of course. I love filling our home with candles and lights. I love wrapping presents. And I just love how this time of year brings family and friends close together – albeit in a somewhat different way this year. (December this year really makes me realise how full of change 2020 has been – I miss the freedom of being able to do such simple things as hug my loved ones!) I also love the warm drinks – hot chocolate and gloggi (mulled wine.) And of COURSE I love the fabulous clothes.
I think this year most of us do look forward more than ever to throwing on a beautiful frock and my NET-A-PORTER wishlist is filled with the most amazing dresses. I thought it would be fun to share a few of those with you to give you some inspo for dressing up throughout December – whether its Christmas or New Years. NET-A-PORTER also have the best next day delivery service so if you ever you need something last minute they are the best. Whether its floor length sequins, classic mini dress or a pop of colour, NET-A-PORTER have got a perfect dress for everyone. My personal favourites are included in this post – I adore this bow dress which is so classic and works all year round! This pink gown is just breathtaking and love that its floaty and still somehow quite casual – the colour is just amazing. And I can never ever get enough of sequins and manage to squeeze bump and I into this fab silver mini!
