Simple Black Dress | Statement Accessories

Maje Dress (lots of black dresses below) | Kurt Geiger boots | Miu Miu sunglasses | Chanel bag

Happy Monday! Hope you all enjoyed your weekend. It was so refreshing for once to just throw on some clothes and not think too much about it. I LOVE putting together my outfits every day but every once in a while even I want to just grab the first thing I find in my wardrobe and thats pretty much what I did for the majority of this weekend. I haven’t done a full on outfit post for a while so today I want to focus on a recent look – my simple black dress with statement accessories. My dress is an old one from Maje and while its super plain what I love is that you can dress up the look so easily with just a few touches. Shoes. Sunglasses. Bag. Sometimes it really is best to keep things simple. I have always mixed high street with designer pieces and I will always maintain that you can make an outfit appear super high end if you invest in a few designer accessories. Thats why I am so obsessed with shoes. I wear lots of pieces from Zara or Topshop but always stick to designer shoes and then the outfit looks super pulled together. So I’ve rounded up some of my favourite statement accessories for each category. As its only the beginning of Spring I have focused mainly on boots – its actually possible to wear a pair of ankle boots with a dress and bare legs without being absolutely freezing!

As most of you who follow me know, I am a HUGE fan of Illesteva. They really should sponsor me considering how much I feature their sunglasses but alas it hasn’t happened…yet. The style I am always wearing is the Leonard which I have in both black and tortoiseshell and what I really love about it is that it suits just about any face shape. Other favourites include the Fendi cat-eye sunglasses which you can get in both black and  mirrored versions and the brand Freda Banana I came across just before Christmas. I also love love love this pair of glittery Dolce & Gabbana ones I found on ASOS which aren’t too badly priced. All my top picks are below:

Even though I am focusing on boots, there are a couple of high heels worth mentioning. First of all the Dior ones. They are only available in store. And they have very limited sizing but new deliveries every now and then so you have to be lucky. At first I wasn’t sure but I am so glad I took the plunge because they are amazing and since buying them (3 days ago!) I have been stopped on the street by strangers and in cafes by waitresses because people seem to love them. Another pair I have worn to death are my Mansur Gavriel white backless pumps. Comfiest shoes I own. Also love the black patent pair. And what about those No.21 mules? Again perfect with just a simple black dress like I wore on Mothers Day (an old Zara dress that was around £20!) I do love the flat ones but unfortunately the pair I bought I had to return because they were just a bit too crazy (literally the only pair of shoes I have ever ever returned.) I also love these Gianvito Rossi Vamp heels – I have the black ones but these tan ones are great for Spring. Found the snakeskin boots I’m wearing in this post from Kurt Geiger and they are on sale so a real bargain. Loving anything metallic at the moment and this pair from Camilla Elphick are the dream. Other amazing boots if you want to really splurge are the Balenciaga biker boots and Chloe studded ones (I kind of wish I would have bought the black instead of the white just because I know I will get so much wear out of them!) When it comes to handbags, again they don’t have to be super expensive. Of course I LOVE Chanel but equally I am into labels such as Mansur Gavriel which is more reasonably priced. I’ve been wearing my Mansur Gavriel mini sun bag a lot recently and it was £400. I actually love really mini mini bags at the moment especially as I usually take a large Goyard for all of Mila’s things anyways so all I need is something small to carry essentials in. The Gucci Sylvie mini chain bag is adorable and another more affordable brand I recently discovered is Manu Atelier. The new Chloe Nile Minaudière small cross-body bag is on my wish list too. Bigger bags that are at the top of my list include the Fendi Peekaboo which I have in taupe and the Gucci large Marmont shoulder bag. Shop my favourites below:

So thats it. I guarantee you can buy a dress from ASOS for £20 but add some designer accessories and you will look like your entire outfit is worth so much more! Enjoy the sunshine – fiiiiinally Spring is properly here and I have abandoned my coats. So over winter.

Lastly, this is really off topic but I bought this dress the other day and I think it might be one of the most beautiful dresses I own. Problem is I know by the time I wear it in the summer it will have sold out so I wanted to share it with you now in case you have any holidays or weddings to go to! Its by this brand Rococo Sand I found on Revolve, its not CRAZY expensive and just imagine how those colours will look with a tan on a summers night…xx
