Thursday date night has been a tradition for my husband and I for as long as I can remember. Setting an evening aside every week for just the two of us to go for dinner, have a few drinks and spend quality time with one another. Having a baby definitely changes your life and its very easy to always put your baby first and forget about lots of things including date nights, but because of that I feel its more important than ever to put in the effort to keep the tradition alive. So for the past few Thursdays my husband and I have gone out for dinner. The first time we went for a date night post birth I was so excited: we were headed to Roka in Mayfair (one of my favourites) and finally I could indulge in some raw fish and treat myself to a drink. But as I stepped into the taxi my eyes welled up and I already felt that incredible guilt for leaving her behind. And when we sat down for dinner that evening, rather than focusing on “us” we spent the entire evening talking about what an incredible child we had created! I’m not sure the guilt ever goes away but perhaps as time goes on it gets easier to tear yourself away for a few hours and focus on the actual evening!
