The Fashion Bug’s Story: I feel like every good holiday of mine begins with a well thought out wardrobe. I like to plan meticulously and have outfits ready-to-go so that when I am actually on holiday I don”t have to to think about what I am going to wear. Packing for a week or even a weekend can be a daunting task even for the most experienced of jet-setters but I find that nailing down some essentials is a good place to start. I will be doing a series of posts dedicated to beach holiday essentials over the next few weeks and what better place to start than with the ultimate item you cant live without on holiday – the bikini. If anyone follows A Bikini A Day on Instagram you will know that there are endless amazing brands out there to choose from. For those of you out of the loop, it is an account created by two best friends who travel around the world to exotic locations and photograph each other in ‘a bikini a day.’ Both the girls and the bikinis look seriously amazing. But with so much choice, how do you choose?
The Fashion Bug’s Tips: Here are a few tips if you are looking to purchase a new bikini!
1. For me the first and most important rule is to invest. You have to view your bikini just as you would you shoes or handbag – if you invest in a luxury bikini brand then it is sure to have staying power and you can use it for more than one summer! So I say forget about Topshop or H&M – there are some really amazing brands out there worth spending a bit more on. Some of my personal favourites in addition to those already mentioned are Heidi Klein, Mikoh, Mara Hoffman and Norma Kamali.
2. Colour. Don’t get me wrong I think you cannot go wrong with a plain white or black bikini (Eres do really good ones) but the beach is supposed to be about having fun and most of my swimwear for this summer is very colourful. One brand that I swear by is Triangl – they are comfortable, come in a multitude of amazing colours, and they are reasonably priced (at around £70 from their website.)
3. Earn your beach body! There is nothing better than feeling confident in your bikini so for most of the world that means you have to be disciplined – sorry ladies there aren’t really any shortcuts. Eat healthy and exercise!
