Happy Monday! Im going to the civil wedding of a friend of mine this Saturday (she has the main wedding in just over a months time in Austria) and it got me thinking about wedding season. There is something so magical about going to a wedding and celebrating the love of two people. To see them make that commitment for (hopefully) a lifetime. To see how much love surrounds them. I always get very emotional at weddings but especially so since getting married myself because it always takes me back to those moments with my husband and our loved ones. I actually have no idea what I will be wearing this Saturday but maybe I will inspire myself with this post! I picked out my top three wedding guest outfits for Sheerluxe last week (check it out here) so I thought it was about time I do a full post on my own blog.
Personally I love wearing long dresses to weddings. I guess this is mainly because all of my friends seem to get married abroad as did we and so the dress code is usually black tie. I sort of think how many occasions do we have to really go all out so when its time for a wedding I like to really make an effort. Saying that its not always appropriate to wear a long dress so if thats the case who do I turn to? A brand that never fails to make a statement dress. Self Portrait. I mean they are literally perfect for wedding guests. And in particular the Azalea dress ticks all the right boxes. Yes its been around for many years now but there is a reason it has staying power. It looks amazing. It fits almost everyone (trust me. I decided to wear it for a wedding two weeks after giving birth with my Pamela Anderson style milk-filled boobs and post pregnancy belly and it did wonders for my body) And comes in lots of colours so you aren’t limited in choice. They used to do an AMAZING bright red which I am hoping will come back at some point. But for now its all about the blues. Shop my favourites below:
And here are some other Self-Potrait dresses (as well as a jumpsuit because a jumpsuit is a chic modern alternative to a dress) that are great options:
I started off with Self-Portrait because its such a fail-safe option. But I have found plenty of others for you. A few things to bear in mind. You don’t always have to go full on to make a statement. In fact its probably best to not make too much of a statement at someone’s wedding afterall all the focus should be on the bride. One of my favourite dresses this season is this pale blue Prada number. It is elegant, simple and almost ethereal. However if you don’t want to splurge then check out ASOS as they have two great alternatives in the same colour – shop them here and here. Another sweet dress I love because its very understated but sexy at the same time is this Topshop lilac number – its long but not too dressy.
A great way to wear a long dress but not feel like you are too dressed up is by adding colour. Find something that has a very simple cut to it and is made of silk or satin. This Mango dress is everywhere at the moment and its not hard to see why. Yellow is the colour of the season and although its not for everyone (I would never wear a mustard shade) I do think that a really bright yellow such as this dress is quite easy to pull off. Especially if you have even a hint of a tan.
If none of those appeal to you and you do prefer something a bit more glitzy then check out Needle & Thread. I truly love this brand and it is so affordable. They have both long and short options depending on the dress code.
I have found plenty of other options too both designer and high street so take a peek below. Shop ALL my top picks by clicking on the pics xx
